BEARDSCAPING – Brides aren’t the only ones who want to look their best on the big day according to top US doctors, a growing number of grooms-to-be are opting for cosmetic treatments before they walk down the aisle.

We may not immediately think of these treatments as being an area of interest for men,87% of dermatologists surveyed in the US say they’ve seen the number of male clients increase in recent years. Here in the UK our experts say that men make up an ever increasing 40% of the patients in theirclinics.

While we’ve heard of men undergoing aesthetic procedures to stay competitive in the work or dating world, Doctors are citing special occasions and big life events such as weddings as a primary motivators for their interest.  And it is not just the groom, some clinics cater for the entire bridal party from Father of the Bride to the guests.

What are these men looking for? Like their female counterparts, they’re interested in procedures that give them youthful-looking skin. One of the top treatments is laser resurfacing, which can help get rid of acne scars and smooth the overall texture for a polished look.

Men are also turning to treatments that help boost the masculinity of their features. Another popular treatment is Kybella or Aqualyx, both are injections that treats fat below the chin. Doctors are using small amounts of the product or Radio Frequency treatments to create a stronger, more angular jawline.

But the biggest trend coming from the Grooms? BEARDSCAPING (and we’re not talking about a barbershop trim). According to clinics we work with , men are asking for laser hair removal on specific parts of their face to shape the lines of their facial hair. If done properly, this treatment not only creates the perfectly landscaped beard, but — like Kybella — gives the appearance of a stronger jaw.

Note for the boys: Possibly another trend in both male and female clientele might be waiting until the last minute which is a no no. Failure to plan is like planning to fail. While many people may think a month before their wedding is ample time to undergo a procedure, you never know exactly when you’ll see results or how many treatments you may need. For anyone contemplating a treatment before a big event, TA Mag recommends consulting early with a qualified practitioner who can break down the timeline that’s right for you.

FACTS: Typically hair removal involves a number of treatments so you should allow at least 3 months prior to your event to get the best look.  The same can be said for any professional skin care, fat loss or surgical interventions.  With Botox you are good to get this 3 weeks before you say I do!
